About Kaal Sarp Yoga

Rahu and Ketu, the lunar nodes, are always 180° apart in the zodiac. They split the chart into two hemispheres. When all seven traditional planets lie within one hemisphere — caught between the two snake-mouths — that's Kaal Sarp (Time-Snake).

The dosha is named for Rahu's house position. Twelve named variants:

  1. Anant (Rahu in 1st)
  2. Kulik (Rahu in 2nd)
  3. Vasuki (Rahu in 3rd)
  4. Shankhpal (Rahu in 4th)
  5. Padma (Rahu in 5th)
  6. Mahapadma (Rahu in 6th)
  7. Takshak (Rahu in 7th)
  8. Karkotak (Rahu in 8th)
  9. Shankhachuda (Rahu in 9th)
  10. Ghatak (Rahu in 10th)
  11. Vishdhar (Rahu in 11th)
  12. Sheshnag (Rahu in 12th)

Effects vary by type — Anant tends to challenge identity and self-image; Takshak strains partnerships; Ghatak affects career; Sheshnag relates to subconscious and foreign matters. Common remedies: Mahamrityunjaya Jaap, visiting Trimbakeshwar (Nashik) or Kalahasti for the Kaal Sarp puja, donating sesame seeds.

Modern astrologers debate whether Kaal Sarp is genuinely classical or a more recent construction. The math we use is rigorous; the interpretation belongs to the tradition you choose to follow.
